Celebrated the 300th Anniversary Year in 2014, the Church’s original architect was Thomas Archer but he was replaced at the end of 1714 by James Gibbs and the design for the building that now stands in the Strand was therefore created in early 1715. Gibbs reused some of the foundations which had been laid for the aborted building.
