Community Safety & Business Resilience

The Northbank is committed to the safety of everyone who lives, works or visits our area. We work with the GLA, Metropolitan Police, Westminster City Council and other partners to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and minimise the risk from more serious incidents.

Our retail and commercial premises are supported by our professional Street Patrol Team, free radio network and dedicated information-sharing site.

The BID is actively engaged with our vibrant evening and night time economy. We work with our bars, theatres, restaurants and hotels to ensure that everyone enjoying our many licensed venues has a great night, safely.

Business continuity is a priority for everyone. The Northbank is committed to building a resilient neighbourhood that is prepared for, and able to respond to, circumstances having a negative effect on daily life.

The Northbank delivers a fantastic programme of free events and seminars, across these themes.

Security

Our Street Patrol team work 6 days a week, Monday to Friday from 6.30am – 10.30pm and on Saturday 10am – 8pm, providing a responsive service to help tackle low-level crime and anti-social behaviour.

Night Safety

The Mayor’s Women’s Safety Charter –

The Charter provides voluntary baseline standards, set out by the Mayor, to support the excellent work taking place across the capital to end violence against women and girls. It is included in the Mayor’s Office For Policing and Crime: Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy, and strengthens the Mayor’s commitment to the UN Safe Cities Initiative.

The Northbank has signed up to help make London a city where all women feel confident and welcome at night

Ask for Angela

By telling customers that they can ‘Ask for Angela’ we’re giving them a discreet codeword that they can give to staff if they feel unsafe or threatened.  Posters making them aware of this will be displayed in toilets.

Volunteer as a Night Star

(For workers and corporates interested in volunteering)

We can encourage venues to train as Night Stars volunteers. Night Stars aim to make the West End’s nightlife safer for everyone. Volunteers work with evening and night time economy venues to promote women’s safety and prevent vulnerability in the night out.

Safe Havens

(for venues, property owners, churches etc)

Our venues can sign up to be safe havens, offering a place for a vulnerable person to rest or reset until they continue their onward journey safely. We could create a network of safe places across London HQ. Register and see the criteria here.

Business Accreditation

(For night time economy Venues)

An accreditation for night time economy venues to have an accreditation in practising women’s safety and also a framework to help them improve.  Register Interest
