Now that the Autumn is drawing in we have had a chance to reflect on our Summer activities. The popularity of our walking tours was overwhelming and has definitely given the team something to plan for in our events programme going forward.
Fox & Squirrel (voted in the top ten guided food walks in the world) designed two walks exclusively for people that live and work in The Northbank. Revealing the area through food as explorers were taken on a culinary tour highlighting what has made the Strand and The Northbank the destination it is today: its people and its places. All this fascinating history served on a delicious four course taster menu of the Northbank area.
From Bobby to Cabbie: A Culinary History of the Northbank’s Anonymous worker
Let the Northbank take you on a culinary tour of its intricate landscape through the language of its fascinating and colourful employees. Based around word of mouth and discoveries in its secret streets, the Northbank’s Food Walk will highlight what has made the Strand and Northbank the destination it is today: its people and its places. Where do the sea of cabbies from Charing Cross take their tea, where do the off-duty policemen enjoy dinner and a pint? The Northbank’s food guide will recount the area’s place in history and its relevance in today’s modern sphere. Find out how sugar first came to the medieval Strand and how it made it’s way to the Savoy tearooms. How has the arrival of the Danes set a precedent for our street markets as we know them now? Set over an hour and a half, it is a multi-course tasting menu, full of interesting facts, chats and snacks; it is an opportunity to see all that the Northbank has to offer. The walk will finish with dessert at the iconic The Savoy where medival British history meets Hollywood grandeur.
