There will be positive changes to the District line timetable, and to opening times at Cannon Street Tube station, from Sunday 14 December.
On Mondays to Saturdays in inter-peak periods, three trains per hour currently scheduled to terminate at Tower Hill will run on to Barking.
On Sundays between 11:00 and 19:00, three trains per hour currently scheduled to terminate at Tower Hill will operate to and from Barking, and three trains per hour that currently terminate at Barking will run all the way to Upminster. This has been achieved by operating six additional trains during the period.
These changes have been made to improve overall journey times and support reliability. The changes will also provide greater flexibility for unscheduled reversing of trains at Tower Hill to mitigate service disruptions.
In addition, from 14 December, Cannon Street Tube station, which currently operates restricted opening hours on Mondays to Saturdays (closing at 21.00) and is closed on Sundays, will open fully from first to last Underground train for seven days a week. Trains on both District and Circle lines will serve the station at all times. This change is to support the expected increased demand arising from National Rail trains being diverted to Cannon Street during engineering work at London Bridge over the next four years.
