An invitation to join the 2016 Anniversary Choir
2016 will see the 90th BBC Radio 4 Christmas Appeal with St Martin-in-the-Fields. To celebrate this remarkable milestone we are planning a number of events and need the help of volunteers, Radio 4 presenters, staff, actors and enthusiasts.
Last year we were thrilled to produce our first Christmas Song ‘I See You’, which was written especially for the Christmas Appeal by John Telfer and Clive Hayward. We recorded the song at St Martin’s. We had amazing support from our volunteers. This year we are being more ambitious. We hope to form a ‘scratch’ choir to perform two songs. A Christmas Carol and Beautiful City by Stephen Schwartz.
We will record these songs for the BBC Radio 4 Sunday Worship, to go out on Songs of Praise (tbc) on BBC 1 and for two performances on 1 December 2016 at St Martin-in-the-Fields – events to mark the 90th Anniversary of the Appeal. We will be joined for one of these by the BBC Director General and other guests.
What we need
About 30 people to volunteer to sing with us in the Choir. No previous experience is necessary. You don’t need to do everything – just what you can.
The full rehearsal and recording for Songs of Praise will be on 1 November 2016 at St Martin-in-the-Fields from 4pm.
The Radio 4 Sunday Worship recording is on 1 December 2016 at 3pm. There will be a run through rehearsal at 1.30 pm. This will be followed by a public concert ’90th Anniversary of the Christmas Appeal’ at 7.30pm.
I do hope that you can support us.
