Refurbishment works to Waterloo Staircase

July 24, 2018

A letter from FM Conway:

24th July 2018

Dear Businesses,

Re: Refurbishment works to Waterloo Stair case

As you are aware we are carrying out some refurbishment works to both Northern stair cases at Waterloo bridge on behalf of Westminster City Council.

The proposed remedial works is divided in 2 phases:

  • Phase 1: Western stair case has now been completed
  • Phase 2: Eastern stair case: Beginning August 2018

These works will begin 3 August and will last for 8 weeks.

The scope of works is to carry out some maintenance repair to the stair cases (similar to both sides):

  • Lighting improvement
  • Re-tailing stairs and landings
  • Jet washing the stone wall
  • Cleaning and repair to stone works
  • Hand rail repair & repainting
  • Waterproofing
  • Installing new tiles on the staircase
  • Infilling alcoves (old access to subway, i.e. installing new doors)
  • Infilling ventilation openings

In each phase of works we need to close the stair case and divert members of public through Victoria Embankment to use the other stair case.

  • As part of our access we need to occupy some of the pavement on Victoria Embankment, to securely set up our site and prevent unauthorised access. We need to install some heras fencing as part of this. Please be advised that footway is still open for use as the minimum if 1.2m shall be maintained at all the time. I have marked the proposal on some photos for your attention.

We are grateful for your co-operation on this, as I am sure that you understand these remedial works are necessary for the safety and wellbeing of members of the public.

Please do not hesitate to contact myself should you have any queries and if you would like to meet in person to discuss further.

Kind regards,
