A letter from Conway:
Dear local Businesses,
As the year comes to an end we are making good progress on the Quiet way Cycle Route running from Bloomsbury to The Southbank. Obviously this time of the year brings its own challenges to yourselves and your customers and with the extra inconvenience of construction work in the immediate area it could all appear to be very daunting.
In an effort to help you through this undoubtedly difficult period we will be sending you periodic progress reports. In keeping you updated, we hope it will alleviate any issues which might occur. Access will be maintained for deliveries, but from time to time may be restricted. In addition construction will always bring with it noise disturbance and residue. It is for these reasons you may like to share our reports with your suppliers and customers. Wherever possible we will aim to take your business requirements into consideration. To achieve good communication between the main contractor and your business, F M Conway has a Public/Business Liaison Officer Helen McConnell. Her contact details appear below.
Construction so far
All work on the junction of Wellington Street with The Strand has now been completed. The footway adjacent to One Aldwych is once again open with a clean and upgraded appearance. During works in late November, we made efforts to maintain a safe route for cycle traffic along Wellington Street. This meant for short periods, whilst deliveries were in progress in the area, we considered it best to request cyclists to dismount, to help alleviate conflict with vehicles and pedestrians. We believe our approach was helpful in keeping this important cycle route open, whilst helping to ensure the safety of all road users. Throughout December this situation is likely to change, as we widen our site and make changes to the carriageway materials. On occasions, cyclists will be asked to dismount, but we will be monitoring this situation for its effectiveness and safety.
We are aiming for further progress in construction over the following weeks, running up to our Christmas shut down on 23rd December. It is anticipated that most of the site will be cleared with reduced fencing in place. This will be the situation until our return in the week beginning 9th January 2017.
The Next Phase of Construction
In the New Year, construction will commence outside the Wellington PH, whilst they are in their quietist period. Works will include groundworks, drainage and the laying of new yorkstone paving. We also aim to continue the construction of the new cycle track as far as Exeter St. It is anticipated that work will commence on a deep drainage sewer connection on the corner of Exeter St in January.
Should you require any further clarification of these details please do not hesitate to contact our Business Liaison Officer Helen McConnell 07917 518 529 firstname.lastname@example.org
On behalf of F M Conway we wish you all a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
