Make sure you visit London Transport Museum this October half-term 22rd-30th October, for storytime and creative ‘make and take’ sessions for families inspired by good design on London Underground. Little ones can don their designing hats and create a 3D paper model inspired by Tube station design, or listen to a fun storytime session about a mouse and a pigeon who have swapped places for a day.
Storytime sessions for all ages
Sessions take place at 11:00 and 14:00 and last approximately 20 minutes
Join us for a little story about how we make strange places feel familiar. Maurice, a mouse who’s afraid of heights, and Heidi, the pigeon who’s never been underground, have decided to swap homes for a day. Help Maurice and Heidi to find sounds, items, colours and shapes which will make them feel more at home.
Make & Take sessions for young artists aged 3 – 12
Sessions from 11:30 and 14:30; activities last up to one hour
Kids can become designers for the day in this creative activity. Using Transport for London’s visual language, families can decorate a 3D paper model of a Tube station or platform in unusual and fun ways, with customisable elements like fabric, signs and colour schemes to make a model all their own.
Other activities for families
The Museum’s All Aboard play zone is perfect for younger visitors: kids can play conductor on a real bus, repair a mini Tube train with toy spanners, and work in the ‘Lost Property’ office. Older children will enjoy driving Tube train simulators and meeting costumed actors who bring the exhibits to life. Children with a passion for art will also love the new London by Design gallery, where an innovative audio-visual display projects a river of images on the floor which lead visitors on a journey to different showcases in the exhibition.
