Already approved by Lambeth Council, the Garden Bridge took one step closer to being approved last night when Westminster’s councillors voted 3:1 in favour of the Bridge spanning the Thames at Temple and the South Bank.
The final hurdle is approval from The Mayor, Boris Johnson, at which point the project team will work quickly to get the programme started to hit its deadline of 2018. The Northbank has voiced its support of the Garden Bridge as an important development for London’s future as an investment in the tourism sector, the wellbeing of Londoners and setting a precedence for creativity in infrastructure. On a local level, the bridge sits in line with The BID’s public realm improvements and Green Infrastructure Audit, working to improve the look and flow of Aldwych (among other parts of the footprint) , an important link between the City and Westminster.
